Repo! The Genetic Opera

Trailers, clips from the film, road tour footage, and other information available on: http://www.repo-opera.com/

In the year 2056 - the not so distant future - an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants, for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family's mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera.

This movie is FUN! The music is catchy. The story is opera, so expect tragedy. The production values are high, so it isn't hokey! See it on DVD or Blu-Ray starting January 20th.

Repo! The Genetic Opera - A Midnight Movie Extravaganza

1/17/09
A little publicized rock, horror, gothic opera, called Repo! The Genetic Opera, was brought to town on a road tour by the director, Darren Bousman, one of its creators and the narrator character of the opera, Terrance Zdunich, and one of its stars, Alexa Vega. The basic plot is that in the near future, we have ruined the world with our industrialization, there are mass organ failures, and a genetic company offers people organ transplants for a fee. It is made legal to repossess the organs of those who are delinquent in paying them off. It also stars Anthony Stuart Head, from the Buffy series, Sarah Brightman, opera star, Ogre from Skinny Puppy, Paul Sorvino (who also sings opera)

We ended up at the P&G Old Greenbelt Theater about 11:30. It is in a little square with a coop and some shops and stuff, kind of like Columbia's village centers.

It was cold, so we didn't get there early, NO WAY. The line went all the way across the square, which was a great relief - no pansy showing like at the Charles. The kids bought hot chocolate, which was a great hand warmer. We saw many people dressed up as characters and generally scalpel sluts. Some people have been following the road tour through the last 3 cities (psycho fans). That was the photo of the 2 girls in white and the Pavi -face stealer girl.

When they let us in, it was clear that there were enough seats, so we got to sit together... everyone was excited and taking pictures, not your usual "no cell phones, no cameras" There was a ton of video being taken and such. The place was packed, but not every seat was taken.

Bousman, Alexa Vega and Zdunich took the stage, after a brief welcome from the theater manager, to welcome us and tell us we were expected to sing along, laugh out loud and dance in the aisles if we so desired. Plenty of that happened. It was totally energetic. There were a ton of people who hadn't seen it yet. The response was terrific and everyone had a good time. We had one young lady who had not seen it yet and she really enjoyed the whole insanity factor of it. We screamed along with the movie and had a general party of a good time there. We bought some posters. After the show Zdunich, Bousman, and Vega answered questions for a good long time - great questions by the audience - awesome stories by them. My little iphone recorded a bunch of it on the memo application that I had downloaded and their responses came out clearly, which was terrific! Then we waited around to thank them and to have them sign.

We left around 3:45 a.m., loving every minute of the wild abandon that was Repo!

Spring Cleaning - Outdoors!

We made it outside this weekend to clean up the yard and dig out the large bed, in which we plan to put in stepping stones and pea gravel.

In our long, narrow bed, we plan to compost and perhaps plant some edibles.

We were delighted to see so many perennial plants return this year.

Next Thursday, the local farmer's market beckons us to seek out herbs and such to round out the garden.

How I spent my summer vacation

Feeling Blue
This summer when school ended, we came home and began destroying the house. Yep. That is exactly what if felt like when we looked into the gutted shell of a former hallway bathroom.

But in a month's time the room was transformed from laminate and plastic to paradise!

We have a relaxing whirlpool Jacuzzi tub, too!

We still hadn't finished the master bedroom/bathroom remodel we began the first of April (we waited to do the shower until the hall bathroom was complete), so pics of that will follow, as that project has at most a week left as well...
